Your Pool is a Significant Investment. Why Not Enjoy It All Year for Free?
WHY GO SOLAR?
The Sun is Hot and FREE!
No Operating Costs!
Swim 3 Times Longer All Year!
YOUR POOL IS READY WHEN YOU ARE!
There are 3 methods: solar, pool heat pumps, and gas.
SOLAR: Triples the swimming season by increasing the pool temperature up to 15 degrees warmer than an unheated pool, from the end of February until the end of November. The months from December to February are not consistent with this type of heating because days are much shorter and cold fronts are more frequent.
POOL HEAT PUMP: These units are essentially air conditioners that work in reverse. It only requires energy to operate a compressor and a fan motor using low amperage in the process. The most efficient units produce up to 6 times more heat energy than the power it consumes. The average cost is $85 to $100 per month.
GAS: is intended for a spillover spa, which generally holds 500 gallons of water. If you chance heating the pool (10,00015,000 average) you will discover the cost to do so can easily reach $600 for one month of operation.
HOW WARM WILL MY POOL GET?
For starters, when the solar system is sized properly, your pool should be above 80 degrees from the end of February until the end of November.
If you choose not to use the cover in winter, you can still double your swimming season, but you can triple your swim season with the use of the cover. A typical screened enclosed pool’s natural swimming season of 80 degrees and above is from June to September. A typical unscreened pool’s temperature of 80 degrees and above is from early May through mid October. However, if 80 degrees sounds too warm, remember at 80 degrees pool water is 18 degrees below your body temperature. So your pool at 80 degrees or above will be very comfortable. The temperature can be controlled with an auto control thermostat.
HOW DOES SOLAR POOL HEATING WORK?
The SunStar system uses the sun’s energy to heat your pool. The sun’s heat is transferred into your pool by circulating pool water through the patented SunStar solar panel.
In most cases, the pool’s existing pump is used to circulate the pool water through the SunStar panels. The water is continually circulated through the solar panels until the pool has attained the desired temperature.
The solar pool heating system operates by your pool pump sending water through the existing pool filtration system then through the solar collectors.
That collected heat is transferred directly to the pool water, therefore, no operating costs are incurred.
• Designed to maximize the sun’s rays at any angle as the day progresses
• Allows capture of radiant heat from roof, even on cloudy days
• Creates breathing between roof and panel, eliminating concentration of moisture and mildew
• Allows for necessary expansion and contraction, which prevents rippling and buckling. More Heat Angles = Warmer Pool, Much FASTER!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is there any maintenance on the solar system? The collectors are maintenance free.
Can my homeowners association refuse it? In short NO, because Florida Statute 163.04 allows the use of renewable resources a.k.a. solar applications and overrides deed restrictions and building codes not exceeding 3 stories in height.
What is the potential of losing the system in a hurricane? The solar system we install has been tested up to 140 mph winds, because the patented hardware allows them to be anchored to the truss. As a result no solar systems in the past 3 hurricanes were lost.
Will a roofmounted system harm my roof? Sunstars individual tube design eliminates other systems unattractive straps & extra penetrations which can compromise the roof surfaces. Instead, our solar collectors are made with a patented sled mounting system which elevates them off the roof and allows them to be installed in trusses which reduces roof penetrations by 50%! Your roof is actually safer with this panel and installation than any other panel on the market!
How many collectors do I need? The amount of panels needed to heat your pool depends on many factors. It depends on the pools size and shape, the roof orientation, and your heating desires. Our solar professionals will go out and accurately size your system and determine how many panels you will need.
Will my solar work when it is cloudy outside? As long as it is daytime, your system absorbs solar radiation. Any solar radiation absorbed by the solar system is then transferred into the pool water. Therefore, even in cloudy conditions, the Sunstar system will heat your pool. It is important to note that increasing the number of solar panels in your system will help absorb more heat. As with any heater, using a pool blanket is advisable, as it will reduce heat loss.
